Jun Ji Hyun began her career at an early age doing modeling for "Ecole" magazine. She made her first Korean TV series debut in "The Season of Puberty". Then in 1999, she starred in the acclaimed TV drama "Happy Together". Her first film, "White Valentine" (1999), slipped by without many being interested. Eventually, she starred in a "Samsung Powerjet" commercial which features her dancing in a nice tight black and white outfit that marked a star for her.

In late 2000, she was featured in a melodrama movie role entitled "Il Mare" which was shot at a beautiful Kanghwa Island. The movie did well at the box office and opened more opportunities. It wasn't until "My Sassy Girl" that put a her star on the map. It was such a huge success that the film spent two weeks at #1 in Hong Kong and also made her recognized in the Chinese market. It is still holding the best box office Korean movie in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Shortly thereafter, she landed roles in several commercials and interviews. Her third film, "The Uninvited", did not do too well despite the critics' applause. Even then, she continued her roles on TV and billboards in Korea and Asia.

In 2004, she was reunited with the director of "My Sassy Girl" and starred in "Windstruck". Many thought her role was too similar to "My Sassy Girl" and was greeted with mixed opinions. Some speculated the movie was the prequel to "My Sassy Girl", but certain plot elements such as character names proved that wrong. However, Windstruck did very well in the box office. It also became the best-performing Korean film in Japan until recently. It is currently number 3 in Japan.

Her latest movie "Daisy" (Early Spring 2006) featured her in a love triangle and was directed by Andrew Lau (director of Infernal Affairs). The film received moderate applaud though wasn't well received in Hong Kong or Taiwan and by film critics. Despite the disappointing reviews for Daisy, Jeon Ji Hyun is still a very talented actress and model as well as an icon for many. She was won "Best Butt" in a poll over Hyori, and continues to win many other polls such as "Best CF Queen", "Most Beautiful Actress", etc (too many to name!). She continues to star in various commercials that shape her persona from being cute and funny to downright sexy and back.

Jun Ji Hyun has been taking classes in English and recently just accepted the opportunity for her first role in Hollywood. She is set to star in an upcoming Hollywood action/sci-fi movie based off the manga/anime Blood: The Last Vampire. The movie is scheduled to be released in theaters in Spring 2008.
